ONA STEELE, LMHC

therapist, learner & listener

Originally from Asheville, North Carolina, Ona Steele attended Boston College where she received her B.A. in Political Science and Modern Art History. Ona graduated in the top 1% of her class and was awarded the distinguished honor of Best Academic Achievement Overall. She then went on to acquire her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. Ona worked as an attorney/litigator for several years before taking time off to raise her family and establishing herself as a noted professional artist and photographer.

As Ona’s children matured, she was determined to pursue her passion for helping others, and returned to school for her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. Ona was accepted as an Intern at the oldest and most established addiction treatment center in South Florida. There she facilitated over 1500 hours of group and individual therapy to a diverse client population.

Ona’s range of experience includes providing therapeutic support and intervention to those suffering from addiction and the accompanying mental health challenges that faced her clients such as anxiety, depression, trauma, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, body dysmorphia, addiction/recovery, relationship issues, grief and loss.

Ona’s main clinical focus is grief and loss. She is a certified grief counselor.

“Grief is not something to be overcome or fixed. Grief is something to be honored and held. In time the experience of grief can be enlightening and transformative.”

Ona offers a confidential, non-judgmental and understanding environment where clients feel safe, seen, and heard. The relationship between Ona and her client is collaborative – they work together to explore challenges, set goals, and develop strategies for positive transformation and lasting inner peace. Ona will provide empathy, support, validation and guidance as we navigate obstacles to life satisfaction.
